1995 Aerostar, 120k miles, largest v6 4.0? auto trans with air. New plugs, wires and professional injector cleaning at 100k.
Started as a one time event at 85k miles two years ago. Dead for 10 seconds at max. Then no problem for over a year. Problem has now returned.
When it first returned would clear itself in 10 seconds max at idle. Only happened first start each day. Now will have a dead cylinder for about a mile. Will clear sooner if I use a lower gear and turn higher rpms. Now if car sits more than 30 minutes same thing. Have cleared any faults a week ago and am going to have the fault codes read, but have not seen a ck engine light so don't know if any fault codes have been set. Trying to out think as repairs are expencive due to poor accessability as you know. Your thoughts??

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Since the engine now has high mileage ......could it be possible that you have an piston oil ring problem? What does the spark plug for that cylinder that is dead look like? Is it coked up with oil, coolant, or fuel?

Your best bet is to remove the injector(s) and have them flow tested and an electrical check performed on them as well. I don't think it would be the coil pack......this would cause a fault code to be stored.
