Ford Repair: 92 escort neutral safety switch, neutral safety switch, backup light

Question
1992 escort 1.9 litre auto transmission. I went to start it today and got nothing when I turned the key. The dash lights come on but the engine will not engage. Also and I do not know if it is related but the horn doesn't sound either. The battery does not seem dead I have lights but no response when I turn the key. I was thinking it may be the neutral safety switch. I didn't check to see if when I put it in reverse if the backup light comes on. The switch is a bit pricey and I wanted to check if it may be something else before I start buying parts.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
It sounds like the starter has died, not your ignition switch or neutral switch. As far as the horn goes, that isn't controled by the ignition switch.......it has power to at all times reguardless of switch position.
Hope this helps,
Erik
