Ford Repair: 1999 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 ticking sound, lucas oil treatment, ford explorer xlt

Question
Ok, do you think that this is that serious? I plan on a Drive from Lancaster California to Clinton Maryland next month. Do think that this should not be done unless this ticking is fixed? The car runs great, does not miss and has plenty of power. It also gets good gas milage.

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0(Pushrod) that makes a ticking sound at idle. It's not consistant. It fads in and out during idle. I was told to try some Lucas oil treatment or Reslon. Do you think this stuff will work or should I spend the money and send the vehicle to the ford dealer?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would suggest that you repair the vehicle correctly.......not a band-aid fix. Take the vehicle to a repair garage OR the dealership and have it fixed.
Hope this helps,
Erik

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
With out hearing the noise.....I really couldn't say. It is most likely one or two lifters that are clacking away. What I would suggest is that you have an oil change and switch to a heavier grade oil......from 5w30 to 10w40 for the summer months and where higher heat is expected. Other than that...you should have a repair garage take a look at the engine to verify your concern.
Hope this helps,
Erik
