Ford Repair: AX4N Transmission, mercury sable, salvage yard

Hello Erik,
I have a 99 mercury sable gs 3.0L engine OHV Ax4n (4F50N) column shift transmission Vin u.  I would like to know what years other than the 99 have a interchangeable transmission?  For example would a 2002 Ford Taurus OHV Ax4n column shift Vin u,1, or 2 transmission work in my car? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would ask a salvage yard and or the Parts counter at your local dealership. The salvage yard will have interchange books that will tell them. I can't tell you. I'm a mechanic, not a parts person.
