Ford Repair: Explorer O/D Light Flashing, d light, explorer 4x4

I have a 97 Explorer 4x4 w/6 cylinder engine.  After driving 10-15 miles the O/D light starts flashing and tranny shifts hard. The code has indicated overheating.  After it sits a few hours and cools and after I drive ~1 mile the light goes out and tranny shifts normal again.  I have changed the fluid and filter many time verifying correct fluid.  I have also had it flushed.  After the fluid and filter change it will drive normal for longer before light starts flashing again.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would suggest that you bring it to a transmission shop OR the dealership and have them look in to it. Changing the fluid and filter is good and removes the contamination from the unit, but IF the  sensor is faulty it won't correct it.
