Ford Repair: Alarm repeatedly going off, ford fiesta finesse, engine management system

Question
Hi Erik,

No problem with the delay - hope you're feeling better. The alarm was fitted at the factory before shipping. I've been thinking a bit more about this: presumably there are connections to the switches in the door sills that determine if the door has been opened? I once noticed that when I closed the passenger side front door the alarm blipped once, though I haven't been able to repeat this. If it's difficult to disconnect the alarm itself (e.g. if it's somehow linked to the engine management system), is disconnecting these switches an alternative?

Cheers,

Rob

Yes, it's a standard factory-fitted alarm. I've made no after-market modifications to the car, and there has been no significant repair history except for standard servicing.

Thanks,

Hi Erik,

I have a UK RHD 1996 Ford Fiesta Finesse 1.3L, standard transmission. About a week ago the alarm started going off for no reason when the car was left parked. Nobody had interfered with it. The alarm would sound for about 30 seconds, then be silent for a few minutes, then sound again. I assumed that the alarm came from the horn and so I disconnected the horn by unplugging the push-fit connector at the horn. I left it disconnected and there were no problems for a few days, but then the same thing happened again, whilst the horn was still disconnected. I can only assume there is another device for making the sound apart from the horn, but I could not find it; in the end I had to disconnect the battery, and I have now left it disconnected (so I can't use my car!). In both cases the alarm went off around 3 a.m (my neighbours went crazy!), on a damp night with lots of condensation - so maybe some kind of electrical short? I don't really need the alarm and am happy to permanently disconnect it - but I don't know where it is! Can you help?
Many thanks,

Rob

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
is this a Ford factory alarm system?
Erik

I just want to make sure I'm absolutely clear on this...was this alarm installed at the dealership? Or, was it installed at the factory before it was shipped out for sale. There is a difference in the two systems.
Erik

PS, sorry for the delay, I've been sick.
Erik

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
I've looked through all of my manuals and I can't locate any information about your theft system. What I can suggest is that you look behind the glove box and also under the dash board to locate the main control box for the theft system.
Also, the door switches COULD play a part in why the system is arming and sounding off at different times.
Hope this helps,
Erik
