Auto Insurance Claims: can I replace my new tires, save my new tires on a total loss

Question
Hi,

My girlfriend just go into a car accident,
She had new tires place, can I change the new one for old ones?

Answer
Sergio,

Yes, the tires can be changed out.  If I understand the question correctly, then your girlfriend's vehicle was totaled, but it had new tires on it.  You want to put some old tires on it and take the new ones off, right?  No problem so long as the owner of the vehicle is the one authorizing it.  The value of a vehicle will decrease if the tires are not usable, so keep that in mind, but essentially, if the vehicle has tires, so long as they are not bald, then they don't really affect the value too much.  The point is that one can do whatever they like with their own vehicle, including replacing the tires with older ones because of a total loss and salvaging the new tires they had invested in.
