Ford Repair: 1964 1/2, battery cables, oil light

Question
Just bought a 64 1/2 with a 289 two days ago. Haven't had time to look it over over good, but today it wouldn't start after driving it about 2 miles. Gen and oil light came on, cranked a little and them crapped out. Eventually the battery wore down and I didn't even have headlights. Recharged the battery and it cranked but wouldn't turn over. It's been a long time since a worked on a Mustang (20 years, and have never had one with a generator), but the generator is less than a year old so I'm thinking ignition coil or solenoid?

Any pointers you could give would be appreciated

Thanks

Answer
Mr. Garver,

I would check the solenoid and see if you have got power to it. Pull the ignition terminal off of the solenoid (it may be the other way around, as I do not remember because it has been a while sine I have had to do this) and place a screwdriver across the ignition and starter terminals and if it starts, you have a bad solenoid. Also if the car has been sitting out for a long time, check all the battery cables, starter cable and check all the wires to the generator. Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
