Ford Repair: 1997 Crown Victoria wont start, ford crown victoria, starter fluid

Question
Hello, My mother has a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria.  The car has a V8 and is an automatic transmission.  I think the car has 28k miles on it.  Its in mint condition is garage kept and has never had any mechanical problems.  A few weeks ago they drove the car to visit a friend.  They made another stop on the way home and when they got back into the car it wouldnt start.  The car would crank normally but would not start.  They managed to find a repair man to come down to look at it.  He checked an injector and said it was fine, he checked for spark and said it was fine.  Finally they sprayed starter fluid in the air cleaner tube and the car started.  After that the car started every time for maybe a week, then it happened again.  The car would crank but not start.  About an hour went by before I could get some starter fluid and get to the car.  When I got to the car I tried to start it before I sprayed it and it started right up.  Sounded fine smelled fine all was good.  They brought it to the local dealer to look at it but of course it started everytime.  The dealer said because the check engine light never comes on there would not be a code saved in the computer.  My mom and dad won't drive the car anymore and no one seems to have any ideas as to what the problem could be, can you offer some suggestions?

Thanks,

Ron

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I wish I could tell you the dealership was wrong, but they aren't. IF the check engine light doesn't light up.....there will be no code(s) stored in the computer's memory.
Since this does seem to be fuel related. You might want to have the fuel pressure and also the regulator checked out at a local garage.
Hope this helps,
Erik
