Ford Repair: oil pressure, oil pressure switch, crankshaft bearings

Question
I have a oil pressure problem with my 1996 v-8 t-bird. The engine has just been rebuilt completly and after driving it away from the shop the oil pressure dropped to zero but if I bring the rpm up to 1000 or put it into park the oil pressure comes up. The mechanic at the repair shop says he checked the perssure where the sensor is and its at 60lbs. at an idle. he feels the problem is not the engine but an electrical one. He has pretty much given up on because he is not good at electrical problems. Any ideas as to where I should start with the trouble shooting. Also I had this same problem before the engine was rebuilt and another mechanic said it was bad crank bearings. The other mechanic put in a heaver oil and the pressure maintained ok. Thankyou very much.

Answer
Mr. Hansen,

I would start at the oil pressure switch, which is located near the oil filter. If that is okay, if you didn't have the low end rebuilt, it probably is crankshaft bearings. Also check all connections at the oil gauge its self. One other thing, when you had the engine rebuilt, did they put in a new oil pump as you could have a plugged oil screen. Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
