"I have an 87 gt 5.0 HO with a 5 speed that gets hot when it is run on the highway. I can drive around town all day and it never gets over half way on gauge but when I go to town 45 miles away the temp gauge climbs up almost to the red on top end. I bypassed the heater core with a plastic loop because it was leaking. No leaks in system as coolant level never drops. Any suggestions?";

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Is your fan electric or is it driven off of the water pump?

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
 There are a few things that can make this happen. Poor water pump flow, bad thermostat (stuck open), bad cooling fan clutch. I would suggest that you look in to the thermostat first.
Hope this helps,
