Ford Repair: 98 Ford Ranger Speedometer problem, speedometer cable, bad hope

I know this is not within your expertise, but I figured I would ask anyway.  I have a 98 ranger that has a malfunctioning speedometer and odometer.  Some days they work and some days they don't.  How can I fix this problem myself.

Check the speedometer cable to see if it has been bent or bound up. Check it from the transmission up. If it works and then doesn't, it sounds like your speedometer cable is bad. Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
