Motorcycle Repair: 1971 Honda CL175, valve clearances, bill silver

Question
Hi Bill-
I recently bought a '71 CL175. It was running at the time I bought it. But it was leaking gas from the old fuel lines and the inside of the tank was really rusted. So I kreemed the tank, replaced the fuel lines, rebuilt the carbs, replaced the petcock, replaced the plugs and still need to replace the air filters. However, I have real limited experience with this type of stuff and since I put all the pieces back together, I can't get the bike to start. I've tried the kickstart, the electric start, and push starting. I figure the problem is something real simple, but I don't know where to start or what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Dez

Answer
Dez, be sure that your carbs are getting fuel, that the points are clean and gapped to .012"-.016" and set to open at the F mark. Check for spark on both cylinders. Check valve clearances.. .002" COLD for both intake and exhaust.
Try a fresh set of plugs, in case you have fouled them by now with all the cranking and pushing.

If you didn't put a full tank of fuel in it, put it on reserve and check for fuel in the carbs.

IF bike has a KILL switch, be sure it is ON!
