Ford Repair: Door ajar light, 1995 ford windstar, ford windstar

Question
I have a 1995 Ford Windstar.  The problem is with the "door ajar" mechanism.  Let's see if I can explain in a somewhat coherent manner.  It started out that the sliding door connections kept getting blackened, causing the door ajar light to come on - no big deal, except that when you turn the engine OFF, the interior lights come on and won't go back off.  Period.  This was an off and on occurence, as I'd clean the head and the door ajar light would go off.  Well, it got worse, cleaning the heads didn't work anymore,  so I had the sliding door sensors replaced.  Worked with out a problem for about a month.  Then it was a hit or miss occurence.  It's gotten now so that the door ajar light will not go off at all.  Doesn't matter how you close the sliding door or the rear hatch....it just wont go off.  Not that big of a deal, except that when the engine is OFF, the interior lights will not go off (we pull the fuse to keep battery from draining).  If you could give me some idea of what to troubleshoot, that would be great.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
What you need to do is find out if the contacts are touching each other at the post. Put a dab of paint on each of the contacts on ONE SIDE. Close the door, and open it. See if the paint has spread to the other side of the contact asym. If not....I think there is an adjustment kit sold by Ford that will move the stike plate closer to the other strike plate. OR you might have to replace it again.
Hope this helps,
Erik
