Ford Repair: 1991 Ford Aerostar Transmission, 1991 ford aerostar, ford aerostar

Question
I have a 1991 Ford aerostar that was purchased from a fleet company in my area. I spoke with the service manager of that company and he said that it was regularly maintained probably exceeding manufacturer's requirements. I was pulling out from a traffic light and after it had shifted to second and was winding out it made a noise (like it kicked out of gear) and that was it. It had no gears including reverse. The garage I've taken it to has replaced the transmission 4 times (including torque converted) and it does the same thing, with the exception of one time it had reverse and low.My question is does it have a computer for the transmission on this model? Is there something electrical that can be affecting the transmission,or is this garage just getting bad transmissions? Thanks in advance,David

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Do your self a favor and bring it in to a transmission shop.........not just a local garage. Also, tell them that the transmission has been replaced 4 times........each with the same outcome. The computer is the PCM for the vehicle and isn't seperate........but the transmission is still controlled by it.
Hope this helps,
Erik
