Ford Repair: Ranger - starting problem, switch problem, ranger xlt

Question
2001 Ranger, XLT 4.0 v-6, Auto. 115,00 Miles:  When cranking engine (hot or cold, it's random), starter will very abruptly stop, then immediately just as abruptly start cranking again, then engine starts up fine.  I have the ignition switch fully engaged in start position the whole time.  No previous problems with starter.  It's a real wake-up in the morning as the whole truck shakes abruptly. Majority of time, it starts normally, but afraid big $$$ is in store.  Is this a solenoid issue or an iginition switch problem?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
With out seeing the vehicle.....I really can't say. I don't want to tell you one thing and have it be another. I would suggest that you have a garage look in to it.....It does sound involved.
