Ford Repair: 2002 Explorer 4x4 XLT Engine Noise, drive thrus, explorer 4x4

Question
My Explorer has about 50,000 miles on it now, and it has been making a lot of noise lately. The noise occurs when I step on the gas pedal and start to accelerate. Once my speed steadies out the noise goes away, unless I accelerate more (maybe to an even higher gear). My engine is also very loud and squeaky when I'm idling (although not ALL the time). I can hear this at drive thrus or when I am outside of my car. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Sounds like engine ping/knock. Try upgrading the octane of gas you are using. Also, look in to the tune-up condition of the engine. Does it need one? Has it been well maintained?
Hope this helps,
Erik
