Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I need MORE information on the vehicle.....model, year, engine, transmission.........
Erik

Hello Erik,
The vehicle is a 1992 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L Automatic.  The mechanic could not fix so I'm out of nine hundred dollars for replacing the flywheel and a new starter (3 new starters)from Ford dealer.  My wife drove it home with the grinding noise and now the truck will not start. I hear the starter clicking but will not start.

Thank you,
Jessie

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
What I would do is check the solenoid that is located on the right fender, near the battery. To do this, use a test light down at the starter to see if the trigger wire (red w/blue strip) is getting power, after the vehicle starts. If it is, the starter will stay engaged.
Hope this helps,
Erik

Thanks Erik, I had this replace also, which I thought this was the problem in the first place.  I clean the battery cables again, but no success.

Thank you,
Jessie

Answer
What you need to do is isolate the power to the starter. when you do get it started, check for power at the trigger terminal of the starter.......there should be NO voltage there......IF there is, move back in the starting system, next check the trigger wire for the solenoid that is mounted on the fender. Once the key is released, there should be no power to that wire. IF there is, move back from the fender mounted solenoid and check the ignition block on the lower section of the steering column.
Hope this helps,
Erik
