Ford Repair: Engine idling too low while in gear, ford contour, intake tube

1996 Ford Contour
4 cylinder
Automatic transmission
161000 miles

SORRY! Wasn't thinking straight. It is an AUTOMATIC transmission. For some reason, and I know better, I was thinking standard was not a stick shift. Sorry.

My car wants to die when I have it in Drive or Reverse, but idles just fine in Neutral or Park. SO...when I stop at a light or slow at a turn, I have to shift the car into Neutral to keep it from dying.

Can you help? Thanks so much!

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Your information and question don't match.......the information says that it is a standard transmission and the question says neutral/park------A standard transmission does not have park. Which is it? A standard transmission or an automatic transmission?

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
What I would look at is the air intake tube----check it over closely for splits/cracks/rips. Next, consider the tune up condition of the vehicle...has it been properly maintained?
Hope this helps,
Erik
