Ford Repair: Starting problem on 91 5.8 Bronco, battery cables, auto parts store

Question
Problem started as a grinding soud when turning the ignition, happened sometimes, other times started fine. Sometimes would start as if there was no problem. One evening, started on seconed attempt, went to the store. When I tried to start the motor again, everything was as if battery was dead. Tow truck tried to jump start, nothing, until I turned on the lights, it started. On the way home from the store, noticed voltmeter gauge was bouncing from mid to low charge. Currently will not start, and when batery is connected, positive terminal gets hot. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Forgot to mention, had the started tested at the auto parts store, and it tested fine. Also, the bronco has both the firewall relay, and a solenoid on the starter.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
What I would suggest is that you check your battery cables and ground connections. You might also want to have your starter checked at a garage, not a parts store. I would also have the garage check the charging system and battery.
Hope this helps,
Erik
