Ford Repair: Escort maintenance, changing transmission fluid, transmission pan

Question
I have a 1997 Ford Escort with auto transmission. I have had some conflicting advice on changing transmission fluid.  I don't really want to take on this project but will take it in for this change.  I was told that places like Jiffy Lube can actually hurt the transmission by the way they push the fluid through the system.  Any info will be appreciated.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
 I would NEVER take it to a place like Jiffy Lube or any other quick change place. THe reason being is that they do NOT take the transmission pan off. The disconnect the lines and flush fluid through it. The doesn't clean the debris in the pan, just moves it around to clog filters, and score transmission parts.
