Ford Repair: ford escort oil light, ford escort lx, 97 ford escort lx

Hi Erik, I have a 97 Ford Escort LX 2.0L, spi, auto trans. The oil light starts to flicker on & off at idle, sometimes staying on longer than other times, then the car usually stalls out. Only does this after I come to stop at a light or at idle. Any idea of what this could possibly be. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Patrick.

 What it seems like is that the vehicle engine speed is dropping. Causing the oil light to come on. Is the engine properly tuned up? Also, when is the last time the oil was changed?
