Ford Repair: timing belt, interference engine, autozone


Question
I have a 96 ford ranger with a 2.3L engine. The timing belt broke while the engine was idling for less than a minute. I installed the new belt with all the timing marks lined as close as i could get them. It will not start. I was told that this engine was a non interference engine. That being said then why won't it start, it seems like the the timing is still off. Is their something else i need to know about this paticular engine.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
 NO engine is completely Non-interference....They say this because there is less chance of this piston and valve hitting in the event of a timing belt breaking.
