Ford Repair: 95 Escort XL CVS separation tools from Trans., ford escort lx, straight punch

Question
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I've removed all suspension and brake hardware, but I've tried for several days to pull shaft out of the lef side of my '95 Ford Escort LX (1.9).  I've bought several types of pry bars but, none seem to help.  My problem seems to be the lack of clearance to use these tools.  I'm at my wits end.  I've repalaced the right side with some difficulty but, not to the difficulty as the left.  I'm quite a good technician, having been repairing my cars since I was sixteen.  I've got also been a professional aircraft engine tech. (7 years), having studied this venue.  What am I doing wrong. What would be the right tool.  I really need this help, because I use this vehicle for my work.  I'm losing time at work, which I can't afford.

Thankfully, Santos

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
There isn't a special tool for axle removal. The clips that are on the end of the axle shaft can get bent/twisted/mis-formed, and when they don't stay in the race at the end of the shaft, they can be a real pain in getting out. Since you have the other side out of the transmission, I would suggest that you go in from the removed side with a thin, straight punch and use it to loosen the shaft up that way.
