I need to replace the Door Ajar sensor for the tailgate of a 2003 Excursion.  I have the part, and bought a Chilton's manual, but it doesn't tell me where the sensor is.  I need to know where the sensor is located so i can replace.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
 I believe that the door ajar switch is located as an integral part of the door latch asymbly. You'll need to remove the door panel, and then the latch.

Which latch.  It is a barn door on the bottom and a lift gate on top.  Do i remove the lift gate door panel?

 I'm sorry, I mis-read your first question. I thought you were talking about the door switch, not tail gate.
Anyways, you'll need to remove the panel for the lower section of the rear door. If I am correct, the latch that you will need to remove is located in the left side latch asym.
