I have a 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra with 25,000 miles. I bought it new 10/16/01. I have had the car in 6 times 2/26/03, 3/11/03, 3/19/03, 9/16/03, 11/5/03, and now 2/18/05. Every time the same thing happens. I will be driving it and it overheats, drains massive amounts of coolant and stops. Every time the dealer says, well...we replaced the water pump again, but can't find out why the pump keeps failing. I am at wits end and out of the 30 month Lemon Law range. Any suggestions as to what else could be causing this?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Here's a silly question...have they replaced the thermostat? In some cases the thermostat can get stuck open/closed and cause an overheating problem. Also, have they flow tested the radiator?
If you know the answers to these questions, please write back so we can get you to a correct diagnosis.
Hope this helps,
Erik

They have replaced the thermostat on one occasion.  They have pressure tested the cooling system each time post repair.  I am not sure if that is the same as flow testing the radiator.

Hi and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
Personally, I think that they are shooting in the dark as far as replacing the water pump so many times, unless there was physical damage to it. I would take a serious look at the thermostat ---again. Also, when doing so, make sure that it is installed in the correct direction for flow!
As far as checking the radiator for flow, pressure testing the system is not checking it. Pressure testing is to check for leaks. You might have to bring it to a radiator shop to have it checked, if the thermostat doesn't solve the problem.
Hope this helps,
