Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Insurance claim, auto insurance claim, scion xa

Question
I drive a scion XA 2006. I was involved in an minor accident near my house when an older lady was backing up. It was clearly her fault, but I was in a rush to work so could not assess the damage correctly. Thinking that she hit the front side where there was no damage except for a small scratch, I let the woman go thinking everything was OK. But when I got to office, I found that the whole right side near the front wheel had been damaged. I got the estimate for the repair from a GEICO certified inspection/repair body shop, and its about 3500$. Now, I did not get a police report since I had agreed to let the woman go. I would like file for a claim with my insurance company GEICO. What are the chances of getting the repairs done by the company. How should I approach with this claim? and what do I stand to lose when the claim is handled in terms of high insurance for the future? Any other advice wud be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Arvind,

If you did not get any of the ladies information and there was no independent witness, your insurance company will consider this to be an at-fault event. They will pay for the repairs less your deductible.

The only way to know the affect this will have on your premiums is to ask your agent. Likely it will mean an increase in premium of about 15% to 20%, but not until it is time to renew your policy.

I hope this helps
