Ford Repair: F150 Ford on board computer reset?, engine management systems, f150 ford

Question
Would the codes stored in the on board diagnostic computer be lost if the battery is disconnected?  My 1998 Ford F150 V8 truck failed emissions and had two codes that were identified.  The "check engine light went off after 10-12 miles after it came on, and the emissions test retrieved the two codes.  The battery died and had to be replaced, and I have heard that this could reset the codes. The truck is running fine otherwise. I believe the code was a misfire on cylinder 6.  Maybe a clogged fuel injector or old plug?  Martin

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Typically, on OBD II engine management systems, the disconnecting of the battery WILL NOT reset the computer. The codes stay in memory. To reset the code(s), you need to have access to a scan tool with a reset function.
Hope this helps,
Erik
