Ford Repair: Removal of front rotor and front end noise, wd 40, axle assembly

Question
Hello Jeff,

I have a 1997 Explorier that have some front end noises and vibrations. When your driving, the sound sounds like a warped rotor and when you put preasure on the brakes it seems to stop. I pulled the tire and removed the caliper and the bracket that holds the caliper, but I can not seem to get the rotor to come off. Is the large nut on the end of the axle assembly holding the caliper on also.
Thank You in advance

Eric

Answer
Hi Eric,
No, the big nut holds the hub in place, not the rotor. Your rotor is just rusted on. Spray it with some WD-40 and let it soak a while. You may need to tap it with a hammer to loosten it. Then machine both front rotors and replace the pads if worn or cracked.
