I have a 1993 Ford Explorer with 4.0 in it.  When driving the engine will just quit for no reason.  All of the other electrical continues to work. After a minute or two, it will restart. This is one of those intermittent things, but I saw in the same category, someone had a '94 that did the same thing.  Steve tried to answer, but wasn't specific enough.  Also, no codes show for this when diagnosed.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.

I would like to ask a few questions first before I try to figure out a resolution for the problem.
1. When your engine quits does it just STOP? or is it a slow porcess that it usually sputters/backfires/acts strange before quitting?

2. What are the conditions outside, when this happens? Rain, Snow?

3. Will the vehicle produce the problem after sitting a over night? Or does it need to be driven, shut off and then it will happen.

If you can give me as much detailed information about the problem, it would help me to lead you to a correct diagnosis,
Erik

I appreciate your help.  Here's the answers to your questions:

1.  It just stops.  No sputtering or anything.
2.   Conditions can vary.  This has been going on for some time. Can be warm and sunny or rainy and cloudy. Sometimes the truck runs fine for a week or more and then start acting up again.  Very intermittent.
3.   It will start up fine in the mornings. No problems. It has to be driven a bit before this happens.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the additional information ...I'll try to help.
It would seem that your problem has a serious electrical problem. What I would suggest that you check is the wiring harness that runs along the battery mounting area. Ford, at one point had a major recall for the battery acid eating away the harness. I would remove the battery, and visually inspect the harnesses and wires in side the harness for corossion and seperation.
Since the PCM has stored no codes, other then this, with out me actually seeing the vehicle, I can not give you a lead as to where to start.
Hope this helps,
Erik
