Ford Repair: 2001 Taurus SEL, sudden surges, test light

Question
I have a 2001 Taurus SEL with 17,000 miles (Like New) we have been experiencing 2 issues:
1.)Sudden "Surges" in RPM's that are totaly random. We took to a Ford dealer who stated " We found no error code and could not duplicate after 30+ miles"  The "Surges" raise the RPM's approx 1 - 2,000 RPMS. If the brake is applied to lightly at a stop, the car will surge forward. It can skip a day without problems.
2.) the defroster blower suddenly quit working. i checked all fuses including the relay fuses and all are good. What next? the Switch?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
This is a difficult problem to diagnose over the internet.
The vehicle "surges" when the brakes are applied......
When it does this---is the cruise control on? I would suggest that if you don't get satisfaction soon, ask the dealer for a take home memory recording system. They will hook up a recorder to your vehicle and ask you to drive it normally. When the problem occurs, you push a button (that they will give you) and the recorder with do it's job of capturing EVRYTHING that the computer is "seeing"...for I believe 20 seconds before the problem and up to 60 seconds after it happens.
As far as your blower motor not working.......
you said that the fuses are good......was this a visual inspection or was it done with a test light or volt meter?
If they are good and were checked with a test light, I would suggest that you check for power to the motor itself, when in the on position.
Speaking of which----does it not work, just in the defrost position? Or in any selection? If it's just in the defrost position, I would say a switch is bad-----if all positions, I would take a look at the motor. If you have power and a good ground at the blower motor, I would say the motor itself has died.
Hope this helps,
Erik
