Ford Repair: Exhaust system, dual exhaust system, mustang 289

Question
I have a "66 mustang 289 V8 on which I am coverting to dual exhaust. I put on an Flowmaster American Thunder dual exhaust system(2.25") and a pair of Hooker headers. My problem is how do I connect the header outlet(3",3-hole flange) to the engine side of the 2.25" H pipe without using a "custom fitted" pipe? I tried placing a Hooker 3", 3-bolt flange reducer pipe(2.25)but the end of it reaches about an inch shy and about 2" to the center from the H pipe on each side. Can I use a flex pipe? Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated! Tom

Answer
Tom-

Any exhaust shop should able to fabricate you an intermediate pipe for pretty cheap.  Just measure the distance the pipes are apart (from flange to flange) and the tubing diameter....basically the things you told me.  I wouldn't ask a place like Midas to do it...but many "Muffler Mart" sort of places would probably do it easily.  Flex pipe might work, but it will almost surely end up leaking and it wouldn't be fastened right.  I'd say do it right the first time and be done with it.  Hope this helps.
