Ford Repair: transmissions, linkage problem, shift rod

Question
Ken,
I have a 69 Mustang with a C4 trans (3 speed auto).  I have a hard time getting (lifting) the shifter out of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear and into either neutral, reverse, or park.  It takes several tries before the shifter will lift up from any of the gears and shift into neutral, reverse or park.  Lately I cannot even get the trans into reverse from park.  The shifter feels like it cannot find the "grrove" for reverse.  Also, the trans leaks constantly from an unknown source.  My question is: does my trans need to be rebuilt or is it a linkage problem or something else?  Thanks for the advice.

the shifter problem could be linkage or the leak or both.go under the car and look at the shift rod where it connects to the shifter, and check the bushing. the leak needs to be found.you didnt say how many miles you had on the car but i would say its time for a rebuild.hope this helps.
