Ford Repair: Econoline Heater Core, coolant leak, tom mielke

Question
I have a coolant leak inside the van.  When running the heat or defroster the smell of coolant is overwhelming.  At first my daughter thinks it smells like maple syrup before she determines that it stinks.

I want to pull the heater core and check that as well as the hoses leading to it.  The last time I pulled a heater core was about 20 years ago on my 76 Duster.  Any basic instructions before I get started would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom Mielke

Answer
Tom:

The best advice I can give you is to take your time.  Drain the coolant first, anything that looks like it will be in your way will be in your way and should be removed ahead of time.  Prepare to spend a whole day doing the repair.

Good Luck
