Ford Repair: 98 ZX2 heater, ford radio, highway speeds

Question
My girlfriend has had the ZX2 for about 4 months. About a week after the warranty ran out, the A/C stopped working out of nowhere. Since the warranty was up, we didn't do anything about it, figuring we could just have it fixed when we had the money. After about a week with no A/C, the fan came on and everything was fine. Until about a 2 weeks ago. We switched over to heat a few weeks ago (we live in NY) and that was also fine. Then, out of nowhere again, it just shut off. Now it's been 2 weeks without heat. It comes on for a few minutes, then shuts off again (this has not happened in about 4 days now). The only time ANYTHING comes out of the vents is when moving at highway speeds. Any idea what it could be? And if it is wiring (which I think it is), can you provide any help as to how to get the radio/heater control faceplate off without damaging the interior?

Answer
Dan:

There is a very good chance that it is indeed wiring.  You must use ford radio removal tools (available at any parts store 5-10 dollars).  Your problem is either in the switch, the motor, the resistor, or the wiring.  I would look more toward the blower motor and resistor due to the intermittent nature of your concern.
