Ford Repair: Fog Lights, fog light switch, inline fuse

Question
I bought a pair of 12V/55W fog lights.  Can I simply bypass the relay and just use an inline fuse and toggle switch?  What type of toggle switch should I buy?  I only have 1 that has 2 terminals, don't I need one with 3?  How can I do this?  And do you have a digram for such a hookup?

Again, I already have an inline fuse for the power wire going to the 12V source, but cant I just buy a 3-prong toggle switch and send the 12V source to one prong, the fogs to one prong and the ground to the last prong on the toggle switch?

Can I bypass the relay?

Please advise - - thanks so much!

Jeff

Answer
You must use a relay and fuses when wiring these lights, they draw a lot of current.  If the lights were wired directly to a toggle switch, the switch could melt and/or start an electrical fire.

I found this website, it may help you understand relays and it has some wiring diagrams.

You can tap off of the factory wiring for the control circuit, and use the factory headlight or fog light switch to turn on your new lights.

I hope this helps,
