Ford Repair: Ford Taurus 97 Headlights dont shut off, ford taurus, light switch

My headlights won't turn off. The head light switch is  in the off position. Could it be as simple as the switch (I hope)?

It could be a shorted switch or a short to power in the wiring.  After removing the switch inspect the harness and connector for signs of melted or burned wiring.  Also check the back of the knob to make sure that it is not damaged.
