Ford Repair: contour 96, forward gear, shift cable

Question
I have a 96 contour with automatic transmission and 2,0 engine
It works only in reverse but it doesn't work in any forward speed
The transaxle shift cable is in good condition
when i remove the solenoids connector the car change speed normally but it has no power
can you tell me how i can verify the solenoids without removing .i really want to fix it my self because i did not have the money for an other one.
this model have i separate control unit for the transmission ?
Can you help me?
Thank you

Answer
Sorry, it sounds like the transmission has an internal failure.  Bad shift solenoids don't usually cause 'no movement in any forward gear'.  I would guess a bad forward drum.  Repairing this would require removing the transmission, complete disassembly, inspection of every part, and rebuilding.  Removing the transmission on this vehicle is very difficult, and I would recommend taking it to the dealer.
