Ford Repair: OD Ford probe, ali ali, solinoid

Question
Hello,

I bought a ford probe 93 model, V6 and 24 valve. Before buying i checked it completely...

After 2 days i found out that the OD/Off button is not functioning. I click it and nothing happens. Even if i click it 100 times, nothing happens!

So, my question to you is..
1)How can we get to know if the OD is on or off?
2)Whats the difference when it's on and whats the difference when its off?
3)When the OD button will be off, will it display any sign light saying "OD OFF" ??? Or Will it display a sign light when the "OD" is ON?

As i think, my OD is on.. because it doesn't display any sign light indicating "OD OFF". So, what do you think is wrong with my OD button?
Does it make any difference in the fuel consumption if the OD is on?

Please answer my questions, i'll be waiting!

Regards,
Ali

Answer
Ali,

To tell if your OD is on or off, you should see a light on the end of your shift lever, indicating that your OD has been engaged (or is on). Obviously, this light will not be lit when you take the vehicle out of OD

The difference between OD, regular drive is that in OD, your engine is in a higher gear as opposed to regular drive, when your engine is in a lower gear. The idea of OD is to save gas, but that is not always necessarily true.

You would know if your vehicle went into OD while driving, as when you push the OD button in, you would feel the vehicle slow down as the engine kicks into a higher gear.

If while engaging and disingaging your OD button, you do not see an indicator light at the end of the shift lever, you could have a bad OD button or it could be a bad sensor or solinoid on the transmission.

Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
