Ford Repair: engine swap, ford crown victoria, mercury cougar

Question
I have a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria with a 4.6L overhead cam engine. The engine is bad, i would like to put in a 5.0L that I have in a 1988 Mercury cougar that was wrecked. How diffucult would this be? will it bolt to the trans? how about wiring, ecm, ect? any info you can give me would be helpful

Answer
If this is your first engine replacement, I wouldn't recommend doing it without a lot of help and advice.  It can be done.  It would be easier and a good learning experience if you replace the engine with the same.  If you converted to a 5.0L, you would have to replace and/or modify the engine mounts, transmission and mount, driveshaft, wiring harness, cooling system, fuel system, and ignition system (for starters).  You wouldn't be able to reuse any of the parts that you listed and it would be very difficult for a first timer.  There are lots of parts availible for a 5.0L and this would be a good and fun project if you have the patience and the money to spend.

I hope this helps,
Dave
