Ford Repair: running board lights, running board, electronic module

Question
1997 Expedition Eddie Bauer
My running board lights have not worked for some time.  Bulbs and fuses are fine.  Any suggestions?

Answer
I would guess that you have a bad "Running Board Lamp Relay" located in the RPO Relay Block in the engine compatment.  It should be a small relay next to a open socket.  I would swap it with a known-good one and see if the lights work (the one across from it is the Park Lamp Relay).  If not, that relay is controlled by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM), that could be bad, or it could be a wiring problem.

I hope this helps,
Dave
