1998 ford windstar for about 4months our van idels low and sometimes when we turn corners it stalls.it shakes when we put on the brakes.last night the transmistion kept slipping and wouldn't go over 30 mph w/out slipping back.i went to auot zone and the guy there did a reading from under the dash about the engine.he wrote on a peice of paper what i should show to a certified tech....#p1537  intake manifold runner control (bank 1=(same as where #1 cylinder would be)stuck open.if you could translate for me and give your advise i would highly appriciate it thnks ,john

It sounds like you have a few different problems.

The Intake Manifold Runner Control opens and closes and second set of runners (tubes) in the lower intake manifold the increase high speed engine performance and at low RPM, increased fuel economy and emmisions.  Replacement is not uncommon.  But a bad "IMRC" would not cause your tranmission to slip or your brakes to shake.  It may cause drivability problems such as low idle or stalling.
