Ford Repair: Grinding sound when accelerating, ford mustang ii, 1978 ford mustang ii

Question
Hey there, I have a 1978 Ford Mustang II, not sure if you're familiar with the Mustang II's but I'll give it a shot.  Here's the problem, when I'm driving, the car is fine and drives beautifully, although after I've been driving for say...20 minutes and car gets warmed up, when I accelerate there's a strange Grinding sound.  I'm not sure where it's coming from but it may sound like the transmission. The sound comes from the middle of the car.  It only does this sound after the engine has be warmed up and only when I accelerate. I'll stop at a stop sign, press the gas and accelerate, then for about 2 seconds it'll go "GRNNNN" and then it'll be fine until the next time I accelerate.  Please let me know what you think it is. Thanks!

Answer
DERRICK

what you describe is strang.i would jack the car up,with the drive wheels off the ground.(all four would be better if you have jack stands).crawl under the car and have somone accelerate the car and see if you can pin point the noise.i could be the tranny, but i would seem it would make the noise at any speed.also check the splash shield is not hitting the torque converter.make sure the drive shaft is not rubbing on anything, exaust etc.hope this helps.
