Ford Repair: 1995 Ford Taurus Electrical Shut down, ford taurus, tuarus

Question
My 1995 Tuarus 3.0 V6, Automatic, apprx 145,000 miles, has what I call an electrical shut down. About one month ago I tried to start the car and apon turning the ignition there is the click of the starter solinoid and then everything electrical shut down.  After some investigation I replaced the starter, which tested as fried, and the problem appeared to be corrected. Yesterday it stranded me again with the same problem. I took the starter out and at appeared to turn good with battery power "not tested on a unit". I reinstalled the starter leaving the main power wire for the starter disconnected. With the turn of the key the solenoid engages, the stater does not turn of corse, BUT the system does not shut down. When I reconnect the power back to the starter and again try to start, a shut down again occurs. Battery check out O.K. I have check all the starter connections, I am going out now to check the wiring between the starter and the battery/starter module.  Lastly I quess I will take the starter out again and have it tested or replaced. Everything comes back up after a few minutes.  I hope I have made this problem clear and I hope you have some help. If you would like I could give you my cell phone number and you can call if you need to. Thanks Jake P.S. No other major problem to this point. I will definately buy another Taurus.

Answer
Jake, it sounds to me like you have a battery that doesn't have the required amperage... when you test it, test it under load (not static voltage) and you may find your problem quickly.
If the battery is OK, then check the ground path from the battery to the starter or engine block - it must be good, or the amperage draw will rise tremendously as the resistance rises.
Hope this helps..
