Ford Repair: Airbag light, supplemental restraint system, ford taurus

Question
Hello, I have a 1993 Ford Taurus.  Just this evening the air bag light started flashing; 3-2 sequence.  I also found out my horn doesn't work.  My question is... I need to take a 160 mile trip (freeway) the day after tomorrow and I doubt if I can take the car in to have this problem fixed beforehand.  Will it be safe to drive until I can get it in the shop?  Will the airbag deploy while I'm driving?  Does the flashing light mean that the airbag system isn't working at all?  Is it a fuse problem? Please advise me.  Thank you.

Answer
Margie, the SRS lamp (Supplemental Restraint System, or AirBag) flashing means that a problem in the system has been detected and the system is now shut down to prevent unwanted deployment...
so, it will NOT deploy, even in an accident, until the system is repaired and reactivated.
The code 32 and the lack of horn operation give us a clue to which circuits to test... I'd suspect the clockspring, or contacts under the steering wheel.  The Ford dealer has the equipment to test it properly.  Be advised, though, that the parts for the SRS system are highly technical and are not cheap.  I would guess the clockspring is about $200 and the monitor about $200, and labor could be another $250.
Be careful on your trip... no airbag system may not alarm you too much (you still have seat belts) but the loss of the horn could also reduce your safety.
Hope this helps...
