Ford Repair: A poping sound, ford taurus gl, ford taurus

Question
Dear Mr.ONeal

I wish to thank you for your time in helping people with problems that they may need help with. I have a 1994 Ford Taurus GL with the 3.0L Vulcan Engine Automatic trany.   My Question is this When ever the car Comes to a stop wither it be a stop sign trafic light or just slowing down when the car takes off it makes A poping sound and it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side.  Have replaced the Brakes pads and checked the Calpiers and they are fine.  Some one Told me to rock the car back and forth while the car was in park and seen if it made the poping sound  it didnt.  So if you could possibley give me any things to check out i would appricate it.  Also the Poping sound does not pop any other times such as turns. Braking and turning it does because i used the brakes.  Again any information would be helpfull.

Answer
Lance, the cradle (the sub-frame that holds the engine and transmission to the car underbody) is attached with four large bolts that go through a rubber insulating pad...
those insulators are common for deteriorating with age, and will result in a single 'pop' noise when braking, and again when accellerating.
I suspect this is the noise you are referring to, and I would inspect them closely the nest time you have the car up in the air for a service.  Try to tighten the bolts - they are at the four corners of the cradle.  You may need to order new ones from the Ford dealer if they are badly rusted.
Hope this helps...
