Ford Repair: Check engine light, ford f 150, southeast ks

Question
I have a 1997 ford f-150 pickup, 4.6 engine. The check engine light came on at 75,000 miles and the people who service (oil change, tires ect)can't reset it. Is there some way to reset without going back to the dealer. I live in a remote part of Kansas the trip would require miles and hours.

Jerry-

I know how that goes...I'm going to school in Pittsburg (extreme southeast KS next to the OK and MO borders) and there's not a dealerhship for at least a good half hour or 45 minutes.  If the code can be reset without a dealer's computer, the best way to do it is to completely disconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to the "accessories on"  position (you know...where you can turn on the radio but the engine doesn't crank).  Leave it like that for about 15 minutes or so.  You'll have to reset your radio stations and clock, but if the code can be cleared without a computer that should do it.  Hope this helps.
