Ford Repair: starting circuit, starter solenoid, taurus wagon

Question
my vehicle wont start. the battery is good, the starter is good. there is a round shaped control between the battery and the starter. it looks like some kind of solenoid. it chatters when i try to start the car. do you know what this part is and do you think it is the problem. i have a 97 taurus wagon. thank you.

Answer
Barney,

That round shaped control between the batery and the starter is the starter solenoid. And yes, I think that this sounds like it is the problem. Go to any reputable auto parts store like Auto Zone or Napa or Advanced Auto and purchase a new one to replace it with. Hope that this helps and I apologize for the length of time that it took to reply to your question but I was experiencing technical difficulties by way of the telephone company and hopefully things are now fixed. Good luck.
