Ford Repair: 1969 Ford Bronco (Starts hard an floods Quick), ford bronco, butterfly valve

Question
My car ran perfect yesterday.Today, when I tried to start up,it was hard to start.I felt it wasn't getting fuel right so I pumped the gas pedal an it started, but black smoke came out the tailpipe.
I checked my inline fuel filter thinking it might be cloged.I cleaned it out an tried to restart the engine. The same result happened so I checked the carb throat an saw the butterfly valve was wide open.I pushed the valve close.
I then tried to restart the engine. (NO LUCK)Can it be the choke an how can I fix this.
I can't keep the car running when I do get it started.
When I set the choke it starts, fast an runs great for about 1 or 2 min, then shuts down, like no gas.
Please help if you can,I can't keep it running long enough to get it to a mechanic.
   Thank You.Paul

Answer
PAUL

if you saw black smoke you have a choke problem.if you have a manuel choke disconnect it at the carb.i would also get a rebuild kit from your local auto parts store and rebuild the carb.i would say thats part of the problem also.it sounds like the accelerater pump in the carb is bad.its easy to rebuild, the kits come with directions.hope this helps.
