Ford Repair: code # missing for 66 coupe, bill shoemaker, unfortunatly

I am purchasing a 66 hrd top coupe, checking the id tag on the driver side door I noticed the code # for the rear axle was not listed.Is there a way to figure out the size and gear ratio w/o crawling under the car? And if I have to crawl what part of the axle will have the # stamped on it? It's a nice looking stock grade vehicle w/pb,ac,at with a 289/2valve motorcraft carb.Help would be appriciated with recomended web links.

I can give you several rear axel ratios that it could be but with out the info from the data plate, they may not be the correct ones. Your best bet unfortunatly is to get under the car and in one of the bolts on the pumpkin of the rear axel should be a tag giving you the information you seek.
